Download YouTube thumbnails in full HD

YouTube Thumbnail Grabber is a free online tool that lets you download the thumbnail image of any YouTube video in seconds. Just paste a video link and instantly get every available size — from the full HD maxresdefault (1280×720) down to the small default preview. Save a single image, or grab them all at once in a ZIP file. No account, no software, and no watermarks.

Available thumbnail resolutions

YouTube stores several fixed thumbnail sizes for every video. This tool pulls all of them:

QualityFileResolution
Max resolutionmaxresdefault.jpg1280×720 (HD)
Standard definitionsddefault.jpg640×480
High qualityhqdefault.jpg480×360
Medium qualitymqdefault.jpg320×180
Defaultdefault.jpg120×90

Not every video has a maxresdefault or sddefault image — YouTube only generates the larger sizes when the original upload was high enough resolution. Missing sizes are skipped automatically.

How to download a YouTube thumbnail

  1. Copy the YouTube video link (for example https://youtube.com/watch?v=JvQtw8IovRQ).
  2. Paste it into the box above and click Grab.
  3. Click Download under any size to save that image.
  4. Or click Download all as ZIP to get every available size in one file.

Standard watch links, short youtu.be links, Shorts, embed, and live URLs are all supported — you can even paste a bare 11-character video ID.

Frequently asked questions

Is this YouTube thumbnail downloader free?

Yes. It is completely free to use, with no sign-up, no limits, and no watermarks.

What is the highest quality YouTube thumbnail?

The highest quality is maxresdefault.jpg at 1280×720 (720p HD), when the creator uploaded a high-resolution video. Otherwise the next best size is sddefault.jpg at 640×480.

Why is the HD thumbnail missing for some videos?

YouTube only creates the larger maxresdefault and sddefault images when the source video was high enough resolution. For older or low-resolution uploads those sizes simply do not exist, so they are skipped here.

Do I need an app or API key?

No. Everything runs in your browser — just paste a link and download.
